Our Story
ThePsychWorld (TPW) was founded to offer affordable consultancy services for those pursuing careers in Clinical Psychology.

Our team consists of trainee and accredited CBT therapists, qualified PWPs, and doctoral trainees in Clinical Psychology. With over thirty years of combined work and educational experience, our TPW team can tailor its support to your specific situation.
Where did TPW come from?
Peter fell in love with Psychology at A-Level, sparking a curiosity to discover more about human nature. In 2015, he began studying for a BSc in Psychology and decided to pursue a career as a Psychologist. Unfortunately, there was no straightforward framework for transitioning from academia to the clinical world. Although there are plenty (and I mean plenty) of resources online, it is easy to get lost in an ocean of terminology and struggle to find simple step-by-step guides.

What first step do I need to take? What grade do I need to achieve? What entry-level job am I eligible for? Will they hire me with no prior experience? Do I need a master's degree? Do I want to be involved in research or clinical work? What's the difference between the two? What kind of psychologist do I want to become? What even is a psychologist? Are they the same as counsellors? Did I choose the wrong degree?

Sound familiar?
Can you relate to the self-doubt, worry, and fear?

What do we do now?
In 2018, Peter began studying for an MSc in Psychological Therapies and Interventions. Fortunately, he discovered the role of a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) through his peers. Those earlier questions had been (somewhat) answered, and there was an entry-level clinical job he could work toward.

And the best part about becoming a PWP?
1. The training course is one year
2. The NHS fully funds the course
3. It is 100% coursework (no exams)
4. You will be paid a full-time band 4 salary whilst training
5. You gain a postgraduate certificate upon completion

What's not to like?!

It's appealing, right - what's the catch? The role is in high demand, and it's common for people
to face several rejections before being accepted. Fortunately, the services that provide PWP positions are continuously expanding as they recognise the success the role has had on mental health services since being created in 2008.

So what? Why are we telling you all of this?
The Clinical Psychology road is difficult, to say the least - rough with rejections, bumpy with hardship and failures. Whether you're aspiring to become a Psychotherapist, Clinical Psychologist, Psychology teacher, or something similar, knowing what you're working toward is meaningful.

Desire and determination can propel an individual far, but without a clear framework and guidance, it's equivalent to sending a spacecraft to the moon without a navigation system; with plenty of fuel but lacking accessible, fine-tuned guidance to reach its end destination, it's easy to get lost.

This is the reason why TPW was created.
How can we support your journey?

TPW offers personalized 1-2-1 coaching, including interview prep, career advice, CV and personal statement assistance, and mentoring throughout your training.
